Snapshots: Pensions in Asia results from the ongoing work of the Pacific Pension Institute to provide education and opportunities for effective exchange about investment and management strategies for institutional investors.
The first edition of the Snapshots highlighted the social security systems of 11 countries in the Asia-Pacific region: Australia, Bhutan, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, South Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam. Each of these countries is a frequent participant in PPI’s annual Asian Pension Fund Roundtables. Bhutan, China, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam are also affiliated with PPI by way of plan sponsor membership.
The second edition, Snapshots 2009, updates the information on the orginal 11 systems in Snapshots 2008 and added Mongolia, Pakistan, the Philippines, and Singapore.
Snapshots relies on United Nations historical and projected population data as well as a wide variety of publicly available sources. Going forward, PPI will be updating the existing entries and broadening our coverage to include additional Asian social security systems.
The Pacific Pension Institute acknowledges and thanks Highstar Capital as the Publications Sponsor of the 2008 and 2009 Asian Pension Fund Roundtables. Highstar Capital provided the underwriting for this publication.
